I guess a video went viral of some YouTube guy named the AmazingAthiest sticking a banana up his butt. But can a civilization survive with guys that are proud of sticking bananas up their butt? Or is that a sign things are coming to the end?

So the world didn't end as predicted by Harold Camping. The more curious question is why did the mainstream media give so much coverage over this prediction? Harold Camping is not exactly a prominent religious leader in America. My guess is that the media likes to poke fun at politically safe targets. After all, could you imagine the media mocking an Africa American religious leader? Or mocking a Jewish or Muslim leader? Any such story would be labeled "hate" and "intolerance" and the reporter would have to grovel and beg for forgiveness. But a White man who is a Christian represents an easy target with little risk. A quick disclaimer - I do not support Harold Camping or his theology.I previous did a video that explained "The Rapture" is a heretical concept that is recent. However, the piling on an old man about his silly beliefs was somewhat disturbing.

I was in Seattle last week, and I happened to talk to a girl who was part of a protest against China. It seems that Chinese government has launched a vicious campaign against people who practice Falun Gong. Falun Gong is a type of spiritual meditation that seems to be a mix of Buddhism and Yoga. However, the Communist government has deemed Falun Gong to be an evil cult. As such, the practitioners of Falun Gong are subject to arrest, torture and executions. Below is a picture of a Chinese girl who was arrested for the crime of meditating in public. And people wonder why I am anti-State.

Was the historic Christian Church a sexist and patriarchal institution? Sure. It is silly for Christians to try to claim otherwise. The question is can the Church be redefined to be more equitable while still being relevant?

A Maryland man, Joe Godlewski, has invented something he calls Christian Salt . Christian Salt is salt that has been blessed by a Christian priest. Mr. Godlewski invented this salt as a substitute for Kosher salt. Rabbi Sholem Fishbane, kosher administrator for the Chicago Rabbinical Council, is concerned about this development. It does not matter to Rabbi Fishbane if Godlewski is using this just as a money making idea. But he is concerned that there could be an ulterior motive. Colorado has proposed that all pregnant women receive a mandatory HIV test. I am opposed to such a mandatory test as this is an infringement of basic civil liberties. However, Colorado senator Dave Schultheis has stated his opposition to the bill on the grounds he fears that it would reduce the number of babies born with HIV. His theory is that seeing babies born with deadly diseases will help change immoral behavior. His quote: "What I'm hoping is that, yes, that person may have AIDS, have it seriously as a baby and when they grow up, but the mother will begin to feel guilt as a result of that," he continued. I decided to get some new shoes today. My beloved tennis shoes were getting kind of ratty. While I was in the shoe store I saw some Doc Martens. It reminded me of a time years ago in which I had those boots. Great boots - nice and durable. On the way to the store, I saw a bum that hangs out around a gas station. He never begs for money, he just sits there in the cold. I bought him some cigarettes and some food. It seemed to brighten his day. At Starbucks, I tried to figure out what all this meant in a religious sense. This is a very religious state, but very few people personally help the poor. They outsource that job to various charities. But did Jesus command us to outsource helping others? Who knows? But my coffee tasted good on a cold day.

The DailyMail reported that an insurance corporation in Austria has decided to only hire people based on certain astrological signs. This has created some controversy as it is illegal in Austria to discriminate based on the usual race, religion or gender reasons. However, this insurance company claims that excluding potential employees based on their astrological sign is quite proper. As astrology is a religion (it is not a science) I would imagine that this violates the religious discrimination restriction. I doubt that the insurance company could require that men be circumcised as a condition for employment. Demanding that a person be born under certain star signs is no less absurd. As such, I decided to call an astrologist and get her opinion of the matter.
