One of the best games this year is Skyrim. Skyrim is a single player role playing games based in a land called of the same name. The people of Skyrim are a hardy race of people called the Nords (i.e., Vikings). A Nord Nationalist? While a fun game, it is interesting how modern political debates seep into the game play. One of the factions in the game (the Stormcloaks) is opposed to Elvish immigration. The Stormcloaks believe that Skyrim is for the Nords.  Of course, such a nationalistic view is called "narrow minded" and "bigoted" by other characters in the game. The game also has the usual PC meme of women being warriors as strong as men. Years ago, such a feminist notion in fiction would have been seen as an absurd comedy. Despite this sort of political correctness, Skyrim is a great game! Hope you all have a Happy New Year!

The St. Paul school system has been charged with eliminating the "achievement gap" between Youths verses Asians and Whites. Of course, this is not unique in St. Paul. This gap is pretty much universal.  Is this gap because Whites and Asians have been holding Youths back for millions of years? Kim Jong-il, dictator of North Korea, died yesterday. We are told that North Korea is a great threat. But pretty much they gave kept to themselves for the last 60 years. Oh, every year or so North Korea will lob a missile into the Sea of Japan and create an international incident. This creates an opportunity for leaders of both countries to look tough. Good PR.  Of course, everyone knows that such is just posturing and no real war is likely. The United States also likes to have an eternal enemy that is NOT in obvious conflict with Israel. This helps to maintain the illusion that we have a somewhat independent foreign policy.
