Avatar is a ground breaking movie in regards to technology. This was the first 3D movie I have seen that did not look cheesy. This 3D technology might be the salvation for movie theaters that are now in competition with DVDs and Internet movie streams. Avatar is definitely a movie that you need to see in the theater with the 3D effects. The story of Avatar is basically Dancing with Wolves set in space. The story is the typical morality tale of how evil Western Civilization exploits the happy natives who live in tune with nature. Despite the heavy handed politically correct eco propaganda, the movie is actually entertaining.

The TV people were shocked and saddened today by the death of Chris Henry. Chris Henry was a wide receiver for the Cincinnati Bengals. It seems that Chris somehow fell out of the back of a pickup truck during a “domestic violence” incident. Pretty much the reaction to these sorts of events is scripted. Everyone says the same lines (“our prayers and thoughts…”) and expresses sorrow and shock at the loss of such a fine young man. I am currently reading an excellent book on the Crimean War. One of the things I found fascinating is how the British at the time commented that one of the reasons that the Ottoman Empire was crumbling was that polygamy was the norm. As the British noted, under a polygamous system, the top 20% of the men tend to monopolize 80% of the women. While this is fun for the top 20% of the guys, it tends to result in the majority of men to be not invested in society. And such men made very poor soldiers. As sexual restraint has been eliminated in America, we are seeing a return to a more primitive state in which de facto polygamy is becoming the norm. Guys such as Tiger Woods have harems while other men are unable to find a mate. As such, can expect to see the crumbling of the American civilization similar to what occurred in 18th century Turkey.
