Is Skyrim for the Nords?
One of the best games this year is Skyrim. Skyrim is a single player role playing games based in a land called of the same name. The people of Skyrim are a hardy race of people called the Nords (i.e., Vikings).
A Nord Nationalist?
While a fun game, it is interesting how modern political debates seep into the game play. One of the factions in the game (the Stormcloaks) is opposed to Elvish immigration. The Stormcloaks believe that Skyrim is for the Nords. Of course, such a nationalistic view is called "narrow minded" and "bigoted" by other characters in the game.
The game also has the usual PC meme of women being warriors as strong as men. Years ago, such a feminist notion in fiction would have been seen as an absurd comedy.
Despite this sort of political correctness, Skyrim is a great game!

They did the same thing in Mass Effect 1 and 2. Both of the pro human groups, Terra Firma and Cerberus are painted as being morally wrong.
ReplyDeleteWhen you meet one of the Terra Firma reps you're only given negative options of dismissing him and you can never take an anti alien position with Cerberus.
The female as equal or stronger than males is standard in most games.
