Demosthenes and Marriage Equality
Interesting how the whole "gay marriage" trend has gained momentum. For thousands of years, no one ever assumed that homosexual could marry - it was a contradiction of terms. Marriage was for children and the family. Even cultures that tolerated homosexuality (such as the Greeks) never entertained the notion of gays marrying. Of course, what we now define as "marriage" would have been seen more as a concubine during that age. As Demosthenes, the orator, explained it: "We have prostitutes for our pleasure, concubines for our health, and wives to bear us lawful offspring." http://www2.hu-berlin.de/sexology/ATLAS_EN/html/history_of_marriage_in_western.html
