Doom and Gloom?

Pat Buchanan recently argued that the Republican Party is in danger of going the way of the Whig Party due to changing demographics.

The argument is as follows – the Republican Party is primarily supported by White Americans. Due to Third World immigration and low White birth rates, America is being transformed from a White nation. Non-Whites rarely support the Republican ideals such as limited government and personal responsibility. As such, the United States is morphing into a one party state (represented by the Democratic Party).

The problem with Pat’s thesis is that is pre-supposes that the Republican Party has been an advocate of freedom and liberty. While the GOP may talk a good line, in reality the GOP has governed in such a manner to greatly increase the scope and power of the State. Spending has gone through the roof while our constitutional liberties have been shredded through odious legislation such as the Patriot Act.

So while the Republicans may never again gain national power – does it really make a difference? We have been headed toward a socialist/fascist model of government no matter which party governed. Obama promises to continue to take us down this course which will lead to disaster.

But is it all doom and gloom?

The failure of the Neocons in the Republican Party (such as Bush, Cheney, etc) has opened the door to fresh ideas and blood. The libertarian ideas of Ron Paul and his supporters may start to gain more traction within the GOP. And ideas are much more important long term than holding temporary power. For ideas can shape a generation and a nation.

All government can do is tax, kill and destroy. Government is unable to create or to produce. Without the productive people, the parasite of government will die without a host to feed upon. We do not need government – government needs us.

The old America is dead and the maggots are feeding upon the corpse. Once they have devoured the corpse, the maggots and their ideologies will die. We saw this happen in the Soviet Union. The once mighty empire quickly fell. Such will happen to the United States.

But from that death, new life will spring. Liberty and Freedom will take root and we will experience a new day. Communism, totalitarianism, feminism, fascism and Marxism cannot endure as it violates basic human nature.

We need to see beyond the dark storm clouds and realize that such darkness is temporary. For unseen behind the clouds is always a blue sky.
