The Patronizing of Susan Boyle



Susan Boyle is an internet sensation who was discovered on a British talent show. Do people love her because of her voice? Or do they love the fact that she is homely?

I know this is supposed to be a “feel good” moment. But these sorts of things always leave me with a feeling that she is being patronized for our amusement.

    She is a great singer. I think that whether or not she wins this competition, it is a good thing that Susan Boyle got the opportunity to perform in front of so many people.

    As to her appearance, it is no mystery why all of the famous woman singers look hot. The music industry is selling everyone a product when they put out a CD or release a song. Everything about modern popular music is rote. It's all formulaic with the goal of selling a product to a wide range of people. If you wan truly innovative music (and movies and literature) you will have to look outside of mainstream sources.
