The Pledge of Allegiance was created was created by Edward Bellamy, a 19th century socialist. The goal of the pledge was to require school children (especially Southern kids) to state that the nation was “indivisible”. The Pledge was originally a work of Northern propaganda that dictated that it was somehow evil to allow states to peacefully leave the Union. Of course, by that logic, the Revolutionary War was immoral as we left the British Empire. After all, shouldn’t the British Empire be considered “indivisible”?

The Pledge also originally required students to raise their hand in a Nazi style salute. This was later dropped in the 1930s.

I find it always amusing how “conservatives” fight tooth and nail for what was originally socialist propaganda.

It is too bad the good guys did not win the Civil War.
