Harvard Faculty Video - How not to get arrested

Henry Louis Gates, a noted Black Studies scholar at Harvard, was arrested for disorderly conduct. It seems that Gates lost the keys to his house and was attempting to pry the front door open. A concerned neighbor called the police thinking that it may be a burglary.

When the police officers arrived and asked to see Gates’ id, he started to yell and act belligerent. According to the police report Gates accused the police officers of being racist. When the police officer asked Gates to step outside to calm the situation, the noted Harvard scholar stated, “Ya, I’ll speak to your mama outside.”

Gates was arrested (and later released). Obama used this incident as an example of how police are racist. Gates is now threatening to sue the police department.
