Identity Politics

Here is a recent video in which President Obama engages in what is called Identity Politics. Identity Politics is making an appeal to a group of people based on their identity – such as race, sex, etc. This is in contrast to appealing to individuals based on ideas.

The Democratic Party tends to encourage the notion that certain groups (such as African-Americans, Mexicans, etc.) should vote as a block in racial solidarity. Such a strategy has been quite effective as African Americans tend to vote 95%+ for the Democratic Party.

Of course, no politician would dare suggest that Whites should also engage in such identity politics. Such a notion would be met with cries of “hate” and “racism”. It is an obvious double standard that is not mentioned in polite company.
