Trampoline to Space?
When I was a kid all the boys wanted to be astronauts when they grew up. We were sure that by the year 2014 we would have colonies on the Moon and Mars. Spaces travel would be as common place as air travel.
Never in our wildest dreams did we think that by the year 2014 America would lose the ability to put men in space. Of course back in the 1970s we never thought NASA would be about celebrating men who dress up as women.

For most European-Americans, living through the decline is a novel and interesting experience. I suppose it corresponds to the Soviet and White South African experiences.

Never mind that America put a man on the moon in 1969. In 2009 America put an African in the White House. To the Bolsheviks, that is the real achievement here.
