Marriage rate declines with porn use?

A German study claims that porn reduces marriage rates and this is harmful to a society. While I think porn can be harmful. I think this is a case of correlation does not imply causation. Porn and other sexual vices (such as prostitution, strip clubs, etc.) are in a different category than relationship sex. The sexual vices are for thrills and pleasure, whereas having a relationship involves other factors that just sexual pleasure.

This study also assumes that the men are making the choice not to marry. I think the falling marriage rate is more to do that women can now have children out of wedlock without financial or social repercussions.

Pornography is replacing the desire among young men for marriage, according to a new study that finds males are chasing “low-cost sexual gratification” on the web over a wife and family.

“Traditionally, one of the reasons to enter into a marriage was sexual gratification. But as options for sexual gratification outside of marriage have grown, the need for a marriage to serve this function is diminishing,” said the report.

The report published by Germany’s Institute for the Study of Labor and co-authored by a West Chester University of Pennsylvania professor suggested that the government crack down on porn access, especially as more and easier tools to tap into the Internet, such as smartphones, expand. Saving marriage, said the report, will help the economy and society.

  1. Traditional marriage was the bedrock of a stable and confident Western society. I often wonder if the move towards a less stable society isn't deliberate.
Either way, a lot of this generation are going to end up having a very lonely old age.

  2. What really reduces the marriage rate is draconian child support, unlawful restraint orders, alimony, ordered to support grown adults until they finish college, men having the civil and property rights of medieval Russian serfs before the corrupt and feminist agenda driven family court racket, tyrants in black sheets deciding how you will spend your hard earned money for the next 25 years or longer. I think these factors could put a chill on the thought of getting married not silly tittie picture magazines.

  3. It exacerbates the problem RamZ, although much of it is actually attributable to feminism and the increased risk for men to get married, porn certainly helps to alienate men from the reality of sex and attraction. By porn I mean excessive porn use, because there is indeed a such thing as porn addiction and it is an increasing problem in the places with high speed internet. It's very similar to a drug addiction, http://yourbrainonporn.com/

  4. Ramsey,

Did the German study, study German porn? Because while I disagree with the notion of porn viewing reducing marriage rates, viewing German porn might. It's ausgezeichnet!

    Auf Wiedersehen,

  5. I don't agree that porn substitutes for marriage. Don't know anyone who suggests they use it as a substitute.

I've heard it said that there is a significant homosexual element in porn. Might seem absurd, but consider...

1: There seems to be heavy focus on the male genitalia. Many videos and screencaps feature this.

2: The kind of acts tend to be more those which men can do to each other..

3: There is a misogynistic undercurrent. I'm not talking about the femitard definition, but real misogyny. Some say that gays often have these attitudes towards women.
